In Art with Ms. Dunwoody we worked on assessment and appreciation of local Indigenous Canadian artists. We are learning about Alex Janvier! He is First Nations and from Cold Lake Treaty 6. He was recently featured at the Glenbow Museum. Our learning intention was I can assess the visual qualities of objects and I can interpret artworks by examining their context and less visible characteristics In French with Ms. Collinge we practiced greetings. Ask us how to say hello and how are you in French? We performed skits in front of our peers. In STEM with Ms. Henry, we picked which animal we want to be for our groups! In music we listened for a walking, skipping or leaping rhythms. We stood up and we skipped in place, walked in place and jumped in place. After music, we did daily news. We read an article about an Indigenous man who acted in a movie called Wonder Woman. He was able to use his language and symbols because he was a chief in the movie. We also worked on math and learned how to create a Venn diagram comparing ourselves to wolves. We are learning about graphs and diagrams as ways to show information. Afterwards, we created a comic based on a Blackfoot story. After lunch, we practiced handball skills and played dodgeball in gym. In science, we completed our “I wonder” section of a KWL chart on animal life cycles.

New Principal Announcement Dear North Haven Community I am happy to inform you that Acting Principal Lisa McConnell has been appointed Principal of North Haven School effective immediately. Ms. McConnell has been a part of the Calgary Board of Education since 2002 and part of the North Haven staff since 2012. She has served in various roles including classroom teacher, Learning Leader and Assistant Principal. Ms. McConnell is familiar with the North Haven School community and has demonstrated her ability to lead the learning community in her current acting role. Ms. McConnell is looking forward to continuing working with you in creating the conditions where all students can learn. Teresa Martin, Education Director, Area 2 Today in music we got to practice different beats with our hands by selecting popsicle sticks. We then read an article for daily news about a new initiative to help Indigenous people struggling with mental health issues. The initiative uses graphic novels to reach those in need! In social studies, we continued to work on identifying the locations of Canadian treaties. In science, we learned that the wolf represents humility in the seven sacred teachings. In math, we learned what a carroll diagram is. We graphed Canadian and non-Canadian traditions within room 11. In gym, we practiced passing in handball. We then worked on our KWL chart for animal life cycles.
